Impact of the West Asian War on India and Strategic Response through the Formation of Seven High-Level Committees

Introduction

Conflicts and tensions in the West Asian region have a significant impact on the global economy. In particular, sectors such as energy, trade, and supply chains are directly affected. In this context, India is taking strategic measures to safeguard its economy.

Global Impact of the Conflict

Rising crude oil prices create shocks in the global economy. Supply chain disruptions affect the movement of goods. Additionally, shortage of fertilizers impacts agriculture. This becomes a major issue related to energy security and the global economy.

India’s Immediate Measures

India is importing crude oil and natural gas from multiple countries. Through this, it achieves import diversification → energy security. This is an effort to reduce dependence on any single foreign source.

Formation of 7 High-Level Groups

Seven high-level groups involving multiple ministries have been formed. These serve as an example of inter-ministerial coordination and crisis management. The focus areas include: fuel, natural gas, fertilizers, supply chains, and inflation.

Strategic Measures (Short, Medium, Long Term)

Short Term: Ensuring availability of fuel. Medium Term: Stabilizing supply chains. Long Term: Achieving energy self-reliance. This reflects effective economic management.

Importance of the Strait of Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for global oil trade. Its accessibility is crucial for India. This is an important concept linked to geography and international relations.

Role of States

States take action under the Essential Commodities Act to control hoarding and black marketing. The Public Distribution System (PDS) ensures supply of essential goods to people.

Agricultural Security

Adequate availability of fertilizers is ensured. This is essential for food security and agricultural productivity.

Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR)

India’s SPR reserves are حوالي 5.3 million metric tonnes. Efforts are being made to expand these reserves further. This strengthens energy security.

Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India)

Efforts are being made to reduce foreign dependence and boost domestic production. Projects like the ₹70,000 crore shipbuilding initiative are examples of this approach.

India’s Foreign Policy

India maintains balanced relations with countries such as Iran, Israel, and the United States. This is based on the principles of non-alignment and strategic autonomy.

Conclusion / Way Forward

Global challenges like the West Asian conflict highlight the importance of energy security and economic stability for India. Therefore, India must focus on renewable energy, domestic production, and a strong foreign policy to face future challenges.
