What is the Naxal Movement?

The Naxal movement is a left-wing extremist movement. It mainly operates in tribal areas and forest regions (such as Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand).
Its objective is to wage an armed struggle against the government.

The government has taken intensive security operations against Naxals.
Operations like “Search & Destroy” have been carried out.

Many Naxals:
Surrendered
Were killed in encounters

COBRA, CRPF, and State Police play a major role in these operations.

“Red Corridor” existed in 12 states

Impact:
Around 2 crore people were affected by poverty
20,000 deaths (including 5000 security personnel)

Causes (Political Perspective)

Underdevelopment of tribal areas

Banking services

This led to the spread of extremism

Naxal influence has been significantly reduced
In some areas, it has been completely controlled

Road and banking facilities

Progress seen in Bastar (Chhattisgarh)
