1. Structure of Houses
Lok Sabha (House of the People - Lower House)
- Directly elected by the people.
- Representation from Union Territories shall not exceed 20 members.
- Date of dissolution of the First Lok Sabha: 04 April 1957.
- State with highest number of seats: Uttar Pradesh (West Bengal also has a high number of seats).
Rajya Sabha (Council of States - Upper House)
- A permanent House (cannot be dissolved). Total members: 250.
- 1/3rd of the members retire every two years.
- Chairman: Vice-President of India.
- The President nominates 12 members from fields of art, literature, and science.
2. The Speaker
- Article 94: Deals with removal of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
- Power: Has the final authority to decide whether a Bill is a Money Bill
